Momentum designs, develops, and deploys innovation campaigns for organizations working on transformative water, energy, transportation, and manufacturing technologies.

Based in Sacramento, California, Momentum has a global reach, delivering strategic planning, fund development, project management, and commercialization services from Los Angeles and Seattle to New York City and the Kingdom of Jordan. Momentum was established in 2005 as Grant Farm.

Katrina is a seasoned project and account manager with 15+ years of experience in client-facing roles across the clean-tech, hospitality, retail, and non-profit industries. She has a proven track record of success in managing cross-functional teams, coordinating alignment among different stakeholders, and developing effective solutions to meeting the unique challenges of her clients. As the Client Management Team Lead, Katrina is dedicated to driving the development and performance of the team, while also maintaining a portfolio of key clients.

Background

Before joining the Momentum team, Katrina played a key role in launching a new, narrative-driven retail concept for Macy’s Inc. called STORY. She oversaw programming at nine Macy’s locations across California, Nevada, New York, New Jersey, Washington D.C., and Pennsylvania. Her previous experience also includes managing event production and consumer-facing activations for Mattel, Inc., OluKai Premium Footwear, the American Youth Soccer Organization, and managing client services for the Los Angeles Tourism and Convention Board. She received her Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) credential in 2013 and received her Project Management Professional (PMP) certification in 2021.

Prior to joining Momentum, Aimee served in various data processing and administrative jobs, primarily for organizations in the retail and IT sectors.

Strategist

Philip is an environmental professional focused on making the built environment more sustainable, reconnecting people with ecology, and creating a more environmentally just future. He is driven by his passion to protect and prioritize the health and well being of people and the planet. He is skilled in translating highly technical project information into compelling stories that inform, inspire, and positively influence. In his role as a Strategist at Momentum, Philip guides the technical decision making process towards outcomes that benefit the owners of the project as well as the surrounding communities and ecosystems.

Background

Prior to his work at Momentum, Philip worked in a variety of roles under the umbrella of sustainability and clean tech including field engineer for utility scale solar and carbon capture projects, energy efficiency and smart home consultant, and marketing and creative direction for a solar storage startup. Most recently he was one of the co-founders of Intersectional Environmentalist 501(c)(3), an environmental justice organization. He has studied and worked in the clean tech and sustainability space for over a decade.

Meredith Anderson

Project Manager

Meredith Anderson is an accomplished project manager with experience in climate planning, energy efficiency, and building decarbonization. Meredith joins Momentum with experience demonstrating leadership through managing challenging projects, securing public and private funding, and communicating effectively with both team members and clients. She is passionate about collaborating with clients to drive projects forward that bring meaningful local impact.

Background

Meredith has lived and worked in the Tahoe region since 2018. Prior to her work at Momentum, she held a Project Manager position at Sierra Business Council, where she managed building decarbonization, energy efficiency, and climate planning projects and programs. She has also worked with ICLEI—Local Governments for Sustainability and the City of South Lake Tahoe on greenhouse gas inventorying, climate action planning, and other sustainability initiatives.

Background

Prior to joining Momentum, Maylanee served as a Director of Workforce Education Programs, driving grant-funded and industry-led workforce development initiatives for the residential construction industry. In addition, Maylanee has also led large-scale projects and programs related to education, internships, and leasing development.

Background

Geneva has worked extensively in the sports and entertainment industry for over 10 years. Prior to joining Momentum, she served as a Partnership Activation Manager at the San Francisco 49ers where she was responsible for managing a diverse portfolio of key team sponsors. She worked to develop marketing strategies and projects to maximize client goals while maintaining the integrity of their contracted portfolio assets. She also spent 5 years with the Sacramento Kings as a Senior Coordinator of Partnership Marketing where she played an integral role in the development and opening of Golden 1 Center.

In her role as a Strategist at Momentum, Bridget helps strategize opportunities for equity, sustainability, and resiliency in mobility.

Background

Prior to her work at Momentum, Bridget served as a Zero-Emissions Mobility Consultant at Wood, where she structured and managed ZEM projects, collaborated with OEMs to meet client needs, and implemented process optimization measures. She has studied and worked in the emissions and EV space since 2016.

Hannah is a recent J.D. and LL.M. graduate with concentrations in Water and Environmental Law, with courses and research emphasizing water and environmental justice, particularly in California. She brings her skills to Momentum in the areas of research, legal and grant writing, editing, policy analysis, community outreach, event planning and management, and administration.

Background

Prior to her work at Momentum, Hannah served as an Environmental Legal Intern for the Attorney General’s Office, Natural Resources Section, where she assisted and supplied supplemental legal work for attorneys and the Natural Resources and Environmental sections. She also has experience as an editor and writer for the University of Pacific Law Review, and for two years served as a Law Clerk at CalRecycle.

BACKGROUND

Prior to joining Momentum, he spent 10 years in the technology industry. He started at Apple before working at a variety of Silicon Valley startups spanning across the healthcare, cybersecurity, corporate travel, and software industries.
AJ also spent two years in Amsterdam as the Director of Customer Success, EMEA for TripActions, where he was responsible for facilitating growth, scaling customer success operations, and establishing product-market fit for the company. While in the Netherlands, he also completed his 200 hour yoga teacher training certification.

Prior to joining Momentum, Heidi gained international experience by holding positions in distinguished organizations within the government-operated South Korean trade and investment agency and the biopharmaceutical industry. Fluent in English, Korean, and German, she provides a valuable multicultural perspective in her professional endeavors. Beyond her professional commitments, Heidi pursues interests in Pilates.

Janet Cohen

One of the founders of Momentum, Janet has more than 20 years of management experience across a wide array of disciplines: project development and management; grant writing and fund development; strategic planning, board development, and facilitation; outreach, communications, and PR; and training, presentations, and conference planning. She is also a skilled leader, utilizing a results-oriented approach to effectively solve problems and manage projects. Janet currently manages six California Energy Commission grants for Momentum clients. She has grant management experience with multiple other agencies, including the Department of Water Resources, State Water Resources Control Board, the US Bureau of Reclamation, the US Forest Service, US Fish and Wildlife Service, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

BACKGROUND

Prior to her work with Momentum, Janet co-founded Community Action Partners, a firm providing a variety of services for agencies, businesses, and NGOs. Since 2005, her efforts have resulted in successful grant writing and fund development totaling nearly $50,000,000. From 1999 to 2005, Janet served as Deputy Director and Executive Director at the South Yuba River Citizens League (SYRCL). There, she was responsible for overseeing all administrative functions, including fundraising and fund development, strategic planning, budgeting, communications, and outreach, and personnel management for a staff and volunteer corps of more than 600. While at SYRCL, Janet spearheaded the development of the Wild and Scenic Environmental Film Festival—now the largest film festival of its kind in the country—and managed the successful State Wild & Scenic River campaign for the South Yuba River in 2001.

Scott is an integrated communications professional with a background in clean energy, clean technology, energy policy, and sustainability. He works to help clients ideate, conceptualize, and deliver projects that enhance quality of life; support better public health outcomes; nurture environmental health; and advance the state of clean energy. In his role as a Strategist at Momentum, Scott supports public agency socialization and other precapture work, as well as grant management activities such as technology transfer and community outreach. Scott brings infectious positivity and aspirational energy to his work that inspires curiosity for what is possible and gusto for bringing it to fruition.

Background

Scott’s diverse work history spans sectors and roles. Before joining the Momentum team, he worked at the California Energy Commission, serving as a Special Advisor to Commissioner Monahan and Communications Lead for the Energy Research and Development Division. His work covered broad swaths of the clean energy sector, including transportation electrification and decarbonization; energy resiliency and safety; building decarbonization; grid decarbonization and decentralization; the water-energy nexus; industrial and agricultural innovation; and clean energy entrepreneurship. He has also worked in clean tech public relations, supported higher education program administration, managed a small business, taught French, and been a research assistant.

Mark is a co-founder and senior strategist at Momentum. He works closely with clients on high-value, high-visibility projects requiring strategic guidance, clarity of thought, and ongoing preparation of written, spoken, and visual collateral in support of critical company initiatives and projects. His specialty is presenting technically complex material in a compelling, benefits-oriented way to non-technical professionals, public agencies, and the general public. He also manages the company brand and serves as Director of Momentum Media, where he helps design and implement powerful communication strategies designed to build trust and credibility among stakeholders, showcase success, engage potential investors, and educate customers, funding agencies, and the general public. Mark has worked on hundreds of successful proposals to a wide variety of agencies, including the California Energy Commission, the California Air Resources Board, and the US Department of Energy. His efforts have helped clients in the advanced energy, transportation, manufacturing, and water industries share valuable information about their projects and win almost $800 million.

BACKGROUND

Prior to his work at Momentum, Mark performed marketing and technical writing for a wide variety of organizations, including Autodesk, Adobe, Applied Ecological Solutions, the University of Kansas, and many others. He lives in Nevada City, California, and enjoys reading, working on his house and property, and conducting science experiments with his son.

John Friedrich

Strategist

John possesses extensive program and policy development experience in the private, government, and non-profit sectors, with a focus on renewable energy, climate policy, and electrification. John manages electric vehicle, energy efficiency, and distributed renewable generation programs and has designed and led numerous local, state, and national issue campaigns.

In addition to his work with Momentum, John currently serves as a Councilmember for the City of South Lake Tahoe, where he has led the successful adoption of a resolution to procure 100% renewable energy from local sources, formed the Multicultural Alliance committee to give voice to South Lake Tahoe’s Latino and Filipino communities, and played a leadership role in key affordable housing, workforce development, and energy efficiency initiatives.

John has an extensive background in climate-related project and program management, spanning three decades. Serving as a director for organizations such as The Yosemite Conservancy, League to Save Lake Tahoe, Clean Water Action, and the Tahoe Green Jobs Coalition, John has amassed a deep understanding of clean tech and renewable energy.

Shawn Garvey

Founder & Board Member

Shawn Garvey is a serial entrepreneur and environmental activist. Garvey is the founder and a Board Member, here at Momentum, a family of companies working to design, develop and deploy transformational clean energy technologies. He is a co-founder and managing director of FuSE, which designs and manages electricity consumption data products for forward-thinking on- and off-road vehicle fleet operators, and also founder and CEO of Momentum X, a company that creates climate fintech start-ups. He founded The Sierra Fund, a foundation for the environment committed to the land and people of California’s Sierra Nevada headwaters which sponsored successful legislation creating Sierra Nevada Conservancy. Garvey co-founded several non-profit organizations, including The Sierra Fund, Velocity7, Green Research and Green Mountain Film Festival. He served as a Special Projects Representative for the US Department of Agriculture Rural Development in the Clinton Administration. Garvey founded Smart Campaigns, a political communications firm that has helped to elect hundreds of Democratic and progressive candidates for U.S. Senate, Congress, Governor, throughout the United States and abroad.

BACKGROUND

Shawn is a co-founder and former Chair of the Bioenergy Association of California. He helped craft and manage an ambitious legislative and regulatory strategy that places California at the crux of bioenergy adoption and commercialization. Before Momentum, Shawn served as Vice President of Communications and Public Affairs at CleanWorld, CEO of The Sierra Fund, and Executive Director of the South Yuba River Citizens League. Earlier in his career, he founded SMART Campaigns, a national public affairs and communication firm whose clients included more than 100 elected officials, including a US President, 15 US Senators, 50 members of the Congress, and dozens of statewide elected officials. During the Clinton administration, Shawn served as a Special Projects Representative for the U.S. Department of Agriculture/Rural Development. He developed and implemented economic development strategies in Northern California and Oregon.

Ash works closely with Momentum staff in support of the internal processes necessary to ensure high-quality project implementation, grant budget development, grant administration, and campaign administration. He provides critical support to accounting and operations teams at Momentum and is key to our ability to coordinate internally between multiple active project participants. Ash is responsible for handling grant budgets for various projects, managing funding opportunities, and ensuring compliance with agency requirements. Additionally, Ash mentors and advises less senior staff, offering guidance and support as they develop their skills across various teams.

Ethan Hanohano

Vice President

Mr. Hanohano has more than 10 years of experience in sales, content development, and client and project management for advanced energy, water, transportation, and manufacturing projects. His excellent written and verbal communication skills complement his flair for organization, making him an effective client manager for some of Momentum’s most prominent clients. Mr. Hanohano also has extensive experience working with a wide variety of public agencies, including the California Energy Commission, CalRecycle, and the California Air Resources Board.

BACKGROUND

Prior to Momentum, Ethan served as a Feedstock Procurement Specialist at CleanWorld. In that role, he was responsible for business development and operations related to anaerobic digestion. Ethan developed and maintained positive relationships with public and private agencies and developed key language for the company’s AB 1826 (mandatory commercial organics recycling) implementation strategy. In his free time, Ethan enjoys playing sports and watching Formula 1 racing.

Matt Hart

Trained in civil engineering and economics, Mr. Hart has worked with clean technology and sustainable environmental practices throughout the United States, South America, Asia, and Africa. Mr. Hart’s expertise focuses on zero- and near-zero-emission, on- and off-road equipment demonstration and community-scale renewable energy generation, including micro-grids, solar, wind, hydropower, and organics waste management. In his work, he focuses on a complete life-cycle approach to clean technology solutions that results in sound economic, environmental, and equitable projects that shift energy production and utilization toward a sustainable future. Mr. Hart brings a comprehensive and analytical engineering and financial approach to his work with Momentum that includes: technology evaluations, greenhouse gas life cycle modeling, carbon pathway modeling, environmental review, air permitting, financial and economic feasibility studies, sensitivity modeling and analysis, resource assessments, and siting study & evaluation.

BACKGROUND

Mr. Hart also serves as the Chair of the Electricity Subcommittee for the Bioenergy Association of California. He is intimately familiar with legislation and rulings related to the interconnection of distributed electricity and renewable natural gas. In his free time, he enjoys travel, exercise, and hiking in the mountains.

Salma Ibrahim

Salma has a strong background in policy research, writing, and analysis. At Momentum, she works as a part of the Agency Landscape team as an Analyst. In her role, she sends the weekly Funding Opportunities email, conducts thorough research and presents findings to Client Managers, and prepares visually appealing deliverables for presentation to clients.

Background

Prior to joining Momentum, Salma interned at the European Commission, where she carried out extensive research and analysis of key financial instruments utilized by the EU to author a report and presentation. She also brings experience in customer service and canvassing, which has allowed her to build a well-rounded skill set that includes interpersonal communication.

Kirsten’s project management background is in outdoor product design, development and manufacturing. However, her background is diverse; she has worked in the sustainable seafood supply chain, marketing, and the local wine industry.

Background

Prior to moving to the US, he lived and worked internationally as Client Success Manager and then Business Development Manager at TechBear Inc. where he was responsible for facilitating the company's growth through driving sales and forming strong partnerships with large enterprises while streamlining internal workflows and optimizing overall performance.

Nenad previously was a part of the Legrand Sales team where he worked as a Junior Sales Manager in a fast-paced and extremely competitive local market focusing on the residential and commercial sector. He was responsible for driving partnerships, re-establishing the company's local presence, and spearheading local projects. He also supported senior managers and served as a Project Manager on a major international construction project.

Myfanwy Johnston

Myfanwy is a strategist and aquatic scientist with more than twelve years of broad scientific and consulting experience. Her expertise includes experimental design, statistical analysis, project development and management, grant writing and administration, nature-based climate solutions, community outreach, technical communication, and data visualization. Dr. Johnston has led projects in partnership with multiple state and federal agencies, including the California Department of Water Resources, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, the US Bureau of Reclamation, the US Fish and Wildlife Service, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Myfanwy’s unwavering commitment to scientific integrity and her passion for sustainability guide every professional endeavor she undertakes.

BACKGROUND

Myfanwy earned Conservation and Resource Studies and Marine Science undergraduate degrees from UC Berkeley. Jonathan has been engaged in clean energy and transportation work since 2016. Prior to joining Momentum, he led go-to-market planning and strategy for the EV fleet management startup, Flipturn; he supported clients with transportation decarbonization planning and development as a lead consultant at ICF; he led zero- and near-zero emission vehicle and infrastructure demonstrations, pilots, planning, and study efforts at CALSTART; and, in a research position at Ohio University, he examined ways to support economic and community development in coal-based economies of Central Appalachia given the impacts of shifting U.S. energy markets. Jonathan also has a background in manufacturing systems and provided technical consulting services to consumer packaged goods manufacturers early in his career.

Prior to Momentum, Jennifer served as Project Director at Burst Technologies, where she performed budgetary and resource management for internal acoustic and hydrodynamic cavitation system development and operation, as well as related commercial projects. She directed scientific and technical personnel on the development of laboratory-scale technology through prototype and, ultimately, product level. She was also responsible for preparation of customer project proposals and defining and managing internal documentation procedures. She also served as Technical Manager. In that role, she directed scientific and technical personnel, managed technical resources for proof-of-concept and subsequent development projects for a variety of commercial applications that resulted from the company’s core research. His experience spans consumer and community engagement and education, research and development, demonstration, manufacturing, and deployment across micromobility, light, medium-and-heavy duty vehicle sectors in the United States and Canada.

Dedrick has developed and led teams responsible for securing and implementing public funding initiatives, clean fuels programs, and shared mobility services since 2012. At ChargePoint, he led public private partnerships where his team secured nearly $150 million for many of the electric vehicle (EV) charging industries’ landmark programs. Notable efforts include spearheading a 50-state engagement campaign, go-to-market strategy, and grant development operations for the $2.9 billion dollar Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Settlement and securing grant funds in over 40 states. Sweeping the California Energy Commission’s Interregional Corridors grant solicitation (GFO-15-603) with 15 out of 15 first place awards for over $9 million as a Momentum client. In addition to providing grant project management oversight for more than $50 million in direct contracts. Prior to ChargePoint, Dedrick led grants and electric vehicle deployment at City CarShare, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (acquired by Getaround), including a $2 million Federal Highway Administration grant to incorporate electric bicycles into a car share fleet.

Prior to 2012, Dedrick cofounded Current Moves, an electric bicycle and electric scooter retail, rental, and service experience center. He currently serves as Board Treasurer for Charge Across Town a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that engages community-based organizations, educational organizations, EV owners and volunteers to bring EV educational events to disadvantaged and low-income communities. Prior to her tenure at Momentum, she was an integral member of the team at Seattle-based Floyd|Snider, providing indispensable support to a group of over 25 engineers and scientists with her exceptional skills in document management, formatting technical editing, QA/QC, and graphic design. She also led the production of over 300 deliverables annually at AMEC/Geomatrix Consultants while managing a team and overseeing company style and marketing materials. With her exceptional eye for detail and background in fine art, Andrea brings a unique perspective to visual presentation and a highly trained eye for detail.

Background

Prior to her work at Momentum, Joanna served as the Community Building and Outreach Coordinator at the Planetary Health Alliance, based out of Harvard University. During her time at the PHA she oversaw membership engagement, youth strategy, and assisted with communications and event planning on an as-needed basis.Before joining the PHA, she served as the Digital Media Lead for Rocky Mountain Institute, and worked with nonprofit organizations such as the World Wildlife Fund, Habitat for Humanity, and the Fund for the Public Interest.

In support of these activities, Sarah conducts rigorous research and analysis, communicates with public agencies, prepares visually appealing summaries, and uploads content to the Momentum website. Sarah also provides valuable research and document preparation support to Momentum staff.

In her free time, Sarah enjoys an avid interest in cinema of all genres. When not inside watching films, reading, crafting, or cooking, she takes to the outdoors to appreciate nature and wildlife. Sarah is passionate about social justice, animal rights, and building a sustainable future.

Aden also has vast experience writing, producing, and editing commercial marketing collateral for a number of clients, and served as a Post-Production Coordinator at DreamWorks Pictures after graduating from the University of Texas at Austin.

Background

Before joining Momentum, Pete worked in General Motors’ Fuel Cell Lab as an Engineer where he supported laboratory testing of hydrogen fuel cells for automotive applications by designing, building, and commissioning automated fuel cell experimentation equipment. He has also experience leading early-stage clean tech startups.
