Octavio and Juan Pablo Victal founded Green Impact Plastics (GIP), S.A., in 2018 in the City of Juarez, in Chihuahua, Mexico. The patent-pending process created by the Victal brothers removes impurities and transforms post-consumer Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) plastic into a food-grade quality PET flake. Those flakes can be used in place of virgin PET for food and beverage packaging. Last month CalRecycle’s Recycled Fiber, Plastic, and Glass Grant Program announced a proposed award of $2 million to help Green Impacts expand operations and obtain advanced manufacturing technology.

Under this project, Green Impact will expand on these innovations to develop and deploy—for the first time in California—a new, proven PET purification and recycling system capable of fully recycling and upcycling PET plastic into high-value, high-quality intermediate products (clear and colored PET pellets for the garment industry).

Momentum assisted the Green Impacts team in crafting the grant application and will continue to provide project management and grant management services as the project gets underway.
