Sacramento, CA — November 12, 2024 — Momentum, a global consultancy specializing in transformative energy, transportation, and manufacturing technologies, proudly announces its role in securing nearly $1 Billion in funding for eight applications, submitted by seven ports and terminal operators through the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Clean Ports Program. The $1 Billion in award announcements, represents nearly one third of the total funding distributed under this solicitation, setting a new record for Momentum.

“This funding marks a pivotal moment for our port and terminal operators, as it supports a significant transition in maritime operations that are critical to both our economy and the environment,” stated Jennifer States, Director of Ports at Momentum. “Our proactive involvement has not only helped secure this crucial EPA funding but also reinforces Momentum’s position as a key player in delivering innovation and shaping the future of green transportation and logistics across the United States.”

Momentum played a critical role in developing the winning applications, leveraging its expertise in grant administration and deploying transformative clean technologies. Securing $1 Billion is a monumental step forward for ports and terminal operators, and with Momentum’s, these grants will support the implementation of critical zero-emission equipment and infrastructure, and emissions reduction planning efforts leading to significant climate and air quality benefits.

Matt Hart, CEO of Momentum, stated, “We are proud to have guided our clients through this complex and strenuous grant process, achieving historic outcomes that set a new standard for sustainability in the maritime industry, driving transformative deployments of clean technologies.”

Momentum understands that the journey does not end with being selected for funding; it begins there. Its team is prepared to leverage its deep industry expertise and proven strategic approach to ensure that every dollar awarded makes strides towards a zero-emissions reality. By doing so, Momentum is not just meeting the immediate needs of its port clients but is also helping them set new standards in environmental stewardship and environmental justice.

As these projects move into the implementation phase over the next three to four years, Momentum will continue to provide strategic support to ensure successful project execution and compliance with federal standards.

“As we move forward, Momentum will continue to work hand-in-hand with our partners and stakeholders to implement these transformative projects,” added Alex Van der Hoeff, Momentum’s Client Manager for Ports and Maritime. “Our commitment extends beyond the life of these projects. We are dedicated to building momentum in our push for a sustainable and economically vibrant future for the port and maritime sectors.”

California is set to significantly enhance its port infrastructure and air quality with nearly $1.8 Billion in Federal funding, as part of the U.S. EPA’s Clean Ports Program. This substantial investment, which represents a third of the total nationwide funding, supports eight awards at seven California ports, including their terminal operators. This funding will accelerate the transition of the state’s economic engines towards zero-emission operations, contributing to cleaner air across the state and supporting Governor Newsom’s infrastructure agenda. These developments are a monumental leap forward for California, home to the fifth largest economy globally, as it continues to lead in sustainable port operations and economic growth.

About the Clean Ports Program
The Clean Ports Program, funded by the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, provides $3 billion for the U.S. EPA to fund zero-emission port equipment and infrastructure improvements. The program aims to help ports transition to zero-emissions operations, reduce diesel pollution, and integrate community engagement and emissions reduction planning into standard practices, thereby enhancing public health and environmental quality in surrounding communities.
